Milt Kuhlman, Superintendent

Mr. Kuhlman's leadership in the 1950's and 60's laid the groundwork for the present school system in Edina. It extended not just to academics but to the sports programs. He was involved in completing an auditorium in 1952 that would offer well-rounded programs for the entire student body and moved the gym facilities to a separate area. He insisted on and promoted extracurricular activities for students to round out their education. The football field at the Edina Community Center is named after the late Mr. Kuhlman.

Steve Tanner, Class of '58

An outstanding track runner at Edina-Morningside High School, Tanner set a state record in the 180-yard low hurdles. He played on Edina's Lake Conference championship football teams in 1956 and 1957 and was on a District 18 championship basketball team as a senior in 1958. He was Basketball Team Captain as well as Track Team Captain 1958. He went on to play NCAA Division I football at Utah State. Steve stayed active in sports; organizing and chairing the Orange County Special Olympics in 1969, serving as board member of the Minneapolis Athletic Club and receiving the outstanding young man of America award in 1970. He is currently retired and living in Bloomington.

Roger Schleper, Class of '66

The leading point scorer for the Edina High boys track and field team, Schelper still holds the school long-jump record of 22 feet 7 inches. He was a starting guard, alongside Edina Hall-of Famer Jeff Wright, when the Hornets won their first state basketball title in 1966. Roger was All-Conference both district and regional for basketball and also played on the Hornets' state championship football team in 1965. Schelper went on to letter in basketball and track at the University of Minnesota and is now one of the owners of Davanni's restaurants. Roger stayed active with both the University and the community and coached youth sports in Edina for 10 years.

Dave Haberle, Class of '67

As Edina's first state boys gold champion, Haberle set the stage for an outstanding career on Edina's All-Conference Golf Team. He was Big Ten Conference individual champion during his career at the University of Minnesota and co-captain. He later played on the Professional Golf Association PGA tour. He is currently a software designer/ product manager at Club Data Corp.

Dave Tengdin, Class of '75

The first down-hill skier to be induced into the Edina Hall of Fame, Tengdin went on from Edina West High School to ski at the University of Colorado. In addition to starring on the slopes, he starred as the kicker on the Edina West football team and kicked the longest field goal in the history of Edina West as well as scoring in every game he was in. He also competed in Varsity ski jumping as a 10th and 11th grader. Dave went on in college to be a member of the NCAA championship team at University of Colorado in 1977 and was pro skiing Rookie of the Year in 1981. He lives in Minneapolis and works for the Allison-Williams Company, an investment banking firm.

Steve Carroll, Class of '77

Best known as Edina East High School's hockey goalie, Carroll also lettered in baseball and soccer. He was all-state in hockey in his senior year and later helped Mankato State University win a national hockey title. He was voted Mankato State's Male Athlete of the Century in 1999 and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He currently works for the Department of Natural Resources as a Media Relations Specialist and is owner of Steve Carroll Goalie School for Boys and Girls and is assistant coach for Gustavus Adolphus College Women's hockey team.

Angie Barnes Krieter, Class of '81

The two-time state all-around champion rewrote the girls gymnastics record book at Edina West High School. Her success started her sophomore year when she won in balance beam and floor exercise at the state meet; her record scored standing for over 10 years. As a junior, and again as a senior, she was state all-around champion and co-captain of the team. Barnes won the Athena Award in 1981 and ranked in the top 10 in her class academically. She went on to Stanford and the University of Minnesota and was a physical therapist for 13 years. She married classmate Mike Krieter and they live in Edina with their three children.

Claudie Vieira Westholder, Class of '89

One of the greatest swimmers in Edina history, she won the Tate 100-yard butterfly championship four consecutive years, Claudia led the Hornets to a number of state record setting performances in relays and was 200 Medley Relay team 4 time State Champs. Claudia was All American, All Conference and All Sate Team 1984-1988. During her four seasons on Edina's varsity team, the hornets won three state team titles and finished second once. She went on to the University of Michigan with an athletic scholarship, winning varsity letters in 1990, '91, '92 and '93 and earning a Masters in Physical Therapy. Claudia currently lives in Edina.

Jim Luther, Coach

The varsity baseball coach at Edina High School for 19 years, Luther guided his teams to six conference championships and a State Class AA title in 1983. His team finished third at state in 1981. Jim taught Life Science/Biology and Psychology for 31 years at Valley View Jr. High and Edina High School. Active in the state baseball coaches' association, Luther served a two-year term as the organization's president in 1993 and '94. Luther also served as selection committee chairman for the Lion's All-Star Series. Jim will be induced into the 2005 MN State HS Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame this coming October. He is retired from teaching and lives in Edina.
